CUC Executive Director Abe Utu Malae yesterday said they find it hard to fill the position previously held by William Sword.
Variety learned that CUC contracted Sherman Pacific Recruiting and Staffing Services to help find a qualified technical manager for oil.
CUC did not disclose how much it is paying the recruitment agency.
Malae said they had an applicant but the person didn’t meet the requirements.
Sword has a master’s degree in engineering and is a professional engineer based on the National Council of Engineering Examiners standards in civil, mechanical, or chemical engineering. He left CUC last year.
Sword also has certification in tank inspection as well as management experience of at least 10 years in a multi-service utility, public works or petroleum tank farm operation.
Since Dec. 17, his post has been vacant and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has given CUC 150 days to fill it up as one of the requirements of the federal stipulated orders.
CUC human resources manager Frankie Cepeda said they have until May 16 to hire a new technical manager for oil.
Malae said it is “unlikely” that CUC could meet the deadline “because it’s very hard to hire anyone.”
Earlier, Cepeda said CUC may hire someone who meets the minimum requirements which include four years in college with major work in engineering, science or other fields related to work in engineering, science, project management, and environmental compliance; and one to three years of experience in oil spill prevention, preparedness and response, environmental assessment, construction oversight or power plant operations.
The position has a two-year contract and a salary ranging from $85,000 to $140,000 per year.
