CUC to replace pole hardware in Dandan, Kagman

This is part of  CUC’s efforts to reinforce its power distribution system, power division manager Gary P. Camacho said Monday.

The objective of the maintenance effort is to replace defective pole hardware, he added.

Camacho said they have sufficient manpower to work on the system maintenance.

He also assured  the community that CUC will complete the replacement of pole top pins and insulators as scheduled.

The work will start at 7:30 a.m. and end 4:30 p.m.

On Feb. 6 and 13, the work will focus on Dandan before shifting to Kagman on Feb. 21 and 27.

The power interruption on Feb. 6 will be limited to certain laterals only in Dandan homestead, Camacho said.

“The line crew will be working in many areas throughout the day and will only interrupt power to a certain lateral to perform the necessary repairs then re-energize immediately after completion,” he added.

He said the power interruptions are required for the safety of the linemen as they perform their work.

CUC will replace 340 pole top pins and insulators in the areas, he added.

According to Camacho, the deteriorated pins are of steel composite, were installed 10 years ago, and have already exceeded their life span.

“Because of their age and extensive exposure to the elements they require replacements to reinforce the circuit,” he added.

Camacho said due to the consistent ocean salt spray in those areas, the new replacement pins have fiberglass shafts and are expected to be more dependable.

CUC is also scheduled to replace one air break switch in the Kagman Mobil area.

The replacement will provide the field crews the ability to minimize the number of customers inconvenienced by future power interruptions when necessary repairs are performed on the grid, he said.

“CUC apologizes for any inconvenience the power interruptions may impose on the community and  consumers and will continue to work diligently to minimize future interruption,” he added.
