CUC water division sets timetable to pressurize island

Water and wastewater division deputy director Bruce Megarr  said they have “very limited equipment,” some of which do not work properly.

Megarr said the tropical climate is also bad for their equipment.

Nevertheless, he said their two maintenance teams were able to perform their tasks.

“If we see a situation when water well production is going down that tells us something is wrong and there’s a series of tests that need to be done on the equipment,” he said.

CUC’s maintenance team is always responsible and will be held accountable, he added.

Megarr said despite the problem with equipment and lack of funding,  CUC is aiming to pressurize the entire island in the next 18 months.

CUC maintains 143 water wells including three springs that provide water to the system, he added.

The water from the springs was utilized after addressing  problems regarding quality and quantity, Megarr said.

He said their water storage capacity location has been improved with new storage facilities opened in the past six months.

The main focus of CUC is customer service, he added, “since our clients want service from our three divisions —  water treatment and distribution, waste water collection and treatment, and repair and maintenance.”

According to Megarr, “We need consider customer service as equal to maintaining functional units — customer service has to be important as well as the safety  and quality of the water that we provide.”
