DURING the recent storm surge caused by Tropical Storm Krosa significant erosion and flooding occurred along Micro Beach. During this event old foundations were broken apart exposing WWII unexploded ordnance. DFEMS was alerted, the area of concern has been cordoned off, and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team will be arriving to assess and remove anything that poses a danger to the community.
The pavilion at Micro Beach also suffered significant structural damage. It is closed and not accessible.
The public is asked to please stay clear of the hazardous areas and always call 911 immediately if you see UXO in the park or around the island. Do NOT touch anything that may be UXO or attempt to move it yourself.
