The blackout started at 4 a.m. and ended 45 minutes after.
It was learned that the unscheduled power outage might have been caused by a distribution line since CUC did not receive any report of power engine failure at Power Plant 1.
Ed Mendiola, the acting Commonwealth Port Authority manager, said the Saipan International Airport was spared from the unscheduled power interruption.
“They usually inform me if power outages will occur at the airport,” Mendiola told Variety.
He checked airport personnel yesterday and confirmed that the power supply was steady for the whole day.
Nobody from the CUC control center in Lower Base answered this reporter’s questions yesterday.
At Power Plant 4, Variety learned that it only produced eight megawatts as requested by CUC.
The plant can produce up to 11 megawatts of power.
