I hope this letter finds you surrounded by love and support. I want to take a moment to acknowledge the pain you have experienced, the loss you carry, and the strength it takes to move through each day.
Losing someone to suicide is a unique grief that can feel overwhelming and isolating. You may have a range of emotions, from sadness and anger to confusion and guilt. It’s important to remember that all of these feelings are valid. Grief is a personal journey, and there is no right or wrong way to navigate it. Allow yourself the space to feel and express whatever emotions come to you.
While words can’t fully heal your broken heart or replace the loved one you’ve lost, I want you to know that you are not alone. There are countless others like myself, who share in this experience, and many who have walked this path before you and have emerged with newfound strength and understanding. Connecting with others who have experienced similar losses can provide comfort and remind you that you are not alone in your pain.
Please remember to take care of yourself. Grieving is exhausting, both emotionally and physically. Permit yourself to seek support from friends, family, or a professional who understands the complexities of grief and loss. Surround yourself with compassionate people who can listen and support you through your healing journey. There is a peer-led survivor of suicide loss support group in the CNMI that can help. It is called A Safe Haven. It is a safe and compassionate space where survivors can express their feelings, share their experiences, and connect with others who understand the unique challenges of grieving a suicide loss.
In time, though the pain may not entirely disappear, it can become a part of your story—a reminder of the love you shared with the person you lost. Honoring their memory can help you find meaning in your experience and create a legacy of love and support.
As we navigate this journey together, know that hope can be found even in the darkest moments. Take each day as it comes, and allow yourself to heal at your own pace.
Sending you love and strength,
Lorenza Smith
