December car sales down by 31%

Latest reports released by the Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association showed that the CNMI’s three car dealers only sold a total of 37 units. They sold 54  in Dec. 2007.

The total brand new car sales for December included 19 sedans, three trucks, two vans and 13 sports utility vehicles.  

Joeten Motors topped the sales list with 13 units sold, or a 35.14 percent share of the market. Microl Corp. and Triple “J” Motors sold 12 units each, or  32.43 percent market share each.

For 2008, the three dealers sold a total of 595 brand new units, a 5.85 percent drop from the total sales in 2007 — 632 units.

Last year’s car sales included 323 sedans, 59 trucks, 45 vans, 162 SUVs and six others.

Based on the yearly report, Microl Corp. sold the most number of units, 283, followed by Joeten Motors with 192 and Triple “J” Motors with 120.

Toyota remains the island’s leading brand, selling 269 units in 2008, which represents 45.21 percent of the market share.

Nissan followed with 82 units sold, representing a 13.78 percent of the market share, followed by Mazda with 58  or a 9.75 percent of the market share.

Ford sold 45 units; followed by Honda with 41; Hyundai, 31; Kia, 24; Mitsubishi, 20; GM/Chevrolet, 14; Suzuki, five; other brands, six.

Joeten Motors is the island’s distributor of Nissan, Ford, Honda and Kia.

Microl Corp. sells Toyota and Chevrolet while Triple “J” Motors is the dealer for Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki and Mazda.
