Judge Camacho approved the request after Guangchao Li posted a $10,000 unsecured bond for his release.
Li, who recently lost his job due to the pandemic, will be immediately released to his sister upon surrendering his passport to the Attorney General’s Office.
Li’s sister told the court that she will call the police if he does not follow court-imposed release conditions. She said she also understands that she will be held liable if Li does not show up for his scheduled hearings.
The AG’s office charged Li with assault and battery, strangulation, assault, and disturbing the peace.
At Wednesday’s hearing, Assistant Attorney General Steve Kessel appeared for the government while Assistant Public Defender Karie Comstock represented Li.
Li is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 28 at 9 a.m.
According to the police, prior to the assault incident, Li asked his wife to help unlock his cell phone.
After she unlocked his cell phone, she and Li “started going through his cell phone.”
She said Li grabbed her right arm tightly, telling her that if she had another man he would kill her.
She told Li that she wanted to leave, but he pushed her toward the floor.
She said Li punched her on her right shoulder then wrapped both of his hands around her neck tightly, holding her to the ground.
According to the victim, she has been separated from Li for over a year now due to past incidents when he also harmed her.
