Defendant in immigration fraud case posts bail

On Friday, Tang posted $2,000 cash bail as U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona remanded her to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service for the processing of her release papers after her initial appearance and bail hearing.

The court scheduled Tang’s jury trial for Dec. 12, 2011.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Beverly R. McCallum, the prosecutor, recommended pretrial release conditions for Tang that include her not  having any contact with potential victims or witnesses in the subject investigation.

She will surrender and not  obtain a new passport, refrain from using or unlawful possession of narcotics or other controlled substances, refrain from excessive use of alcohol, not to possess any firearms, stay away from airport and seaports, and to refrain from travel outside Saipan without the court’s permission.

Tang is being represented by court-appointed defense attorney Colin Thompson.

Tang was arrested in Dandan on Oct. 5, 2011 after an indictment was returned by a grand jury on Sept. 22, 2011.

The indictment stated that Tang made a false statement in her Form I-485, an application to register permanent residence or adjustment of status with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Tang stated that her only child was her daughter born in 2006.

On or about April 2002, Tang gave birth to a son whose biological father was Abdullah al Mamun who was listed on the child’s birth certificate, the indictment stated.

Tang issued the statement under oath on or about Dec. 21, 2009, while her filled out Form I-485 was received by USCIS on or about Aug. 31, 2009.
