William Thomas Pendergrass II, 20, was charged in Superior Court with assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace.
A co-defendant Jerome Pluhs Fujihira, 21, has filed a motion to modify his bail.
Sgt. Jonathan DLC. Garces said the defendants assaulted Serafin M. Ogo with a shovel and stick on April 25, 2011 on Rota.
A doctor from the Rota Health Center said Ogo suffered a fractured right arm and an abrasion to his head.
On Monday, Judge Kenneth L. Govendo granted the motion for bail modification filed by attorney Michael Evangelista, who represented Pendergrass.
Pendergrass was released to the custody of his father as third party custodian.
Pendergrass has to observe daily curfew from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., and must not consume any alcohol at all.
Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig has filed a motion to modify bail for Fujihira.
Hartig is asking the court to release Fujihira to his father as his third party custodian, and to be allowed to post a $25,000 property bond.
Fujihira was due to appear in court yesterday for his motion to modify bail.
