Defendant seeks non-trial resolution of wire fraud case

Chief Judge William H. Alsup of the Northern District of California yesterday granted the motion for waiver for speedy trial filed by Armilaine Salamat, who is currently out on bail.

In addition to her attempt to negotiate for a non-trial resolution of her case, Salamat, through her court-appointed attorney Loren Sutton, said the U.S. government has recently provided additional documents to her attorney in discovery.

Alsup said the jury trial for Salamat will start on Aug. 30, 2010.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Beverly McCallum is prosecuting the case.

The jury trial for Salamat’s co-defendant Ana Maria Villadiego Villegas will start on Aug. 23, 2010.

The court earlier scheduled the start of jury trial for Salamat and Villegas for June 7, 2010.

The prosecution said over $100,000 was involved in the defendants’ fraudulent scheme.
