Dela Cruz: CUC should update report on Power Plant 1 condition

CUC Executive Director Antonio S. Muna told lawmakers on Monday that “the condition at the plant is adverse.”

“If it is true, then I don’t see any reason why the people should work over there at the power plant,” said Dela Cruz, Covenant-Saipan and a member of the House Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation and Communications.

He said he is concerned about the safety and welfare of the power generation division personnel.

“The safety of people is the utmost priority,” he added.

CUC should keep the Legislature updated either on a daily or a weekly basis regarding the status of the power plant in Lower Base, he said.

“I haven’t seen any daily or weekly reports coming from CUC,” according to the lawmaker.

CUC, he added, can post its updated status on a Web site.

Muna  said “running the engines [of Power Plant 1] may bring disaster.”
