The 38-year-old Demapan turned himself in to Detective Roque K. Camacho at about 6 a.m. yesterday.
Wiseman raised to $100,000 the $30,000 original bail he imposed on Demapan who was arrested for illegal possession of controlled substance, trafficking of controlled substance, and conspiracy to trafficking controlled substance.
Demapan’s co-defendant is Sylvan Magofna Cabrera, 37, who was earlier arrested by authorities.
Demapan was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the hearing.
Assistant Attorney General Peter Prestley is prosecuting the case, but the court has yet to appoint a counsel for Demapan.
Department of Public Safety acting spokesman PO2 Jason Tarkong told the Variety that Demapan called Detective Camacho after the news came out that the authorities were looking for the defendant.
Yesterday morning, Tarkong said Camacho again received a call from Demapan who asked to be picked up at a laundromat in Susupe.
In raising the cash bail amount, Wiseman said he took into consideration the prior conviction of Demapan, also for “ice” charges years ago.
In 2003, then-Associate Judge Juan T. Lizama sentenced Demapan to 15 years, all suspended except for eight years.
At the time, Lizama also directed Demapan to be interviewed by the CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force or any investigator regarding his knowledge of the criminal activities of the following: David Diaz, Jeffrey Deleon Guerrero, Roman Agulto, Jameson Hemley, Glenn Naputi, Vernon Rivera, and to truthfully testify regarding his knowledge of the criminal activities of these individuals.
Demapan pleaded guilty to three counts of illegal possession of a controlled substance in 2002 and 2001.
In other news, a motion for the modification of Francisco Demapan’s bail was granted by the court.
Francisco Demapan, who is Pedro Demapan’s brother, was arrested for possession of controlled substance.
The 30-year-old Francisco Demapan was required to post a $20,000 property bond before he can be released to his common-law partner Christiana Duenas as his third party custodian.
