THE Democrats in the CNMI, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and American Samoa are supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid.

In a joint statement Friday, the territories’ Democrats said they are unified in fully supporting Harris, and have “proudly endorsed” her as their Democratic nominee for president.

NMI Democratic Party Vice Chair Luella Marciano said, “Kamala Harris represents the hope and future of America, and she is the best candidate to unite our nation and defeat Donald Trump in November.”

She said as a former prosecutor and President Joe Biden’s “right-hand woman in the last four years,” Harris’ experience, knowledge, and track record for leadership is “unmatched.”

“We are so excited and ready to go all in to elect the first African American and first South Asian American President into the Oval Office,” Marciano said.

Puerto Rico Democratic Party Chair Charles Rodriguez said, “Kamala offers many guarantees to secure a win against Donald Trump. She immediately generated great enthusiasm, received economic backing, and her position as Vice President offers the continuity of a pragmatic vision that has been one of prosperity for all, including, without a doubt, the residents of our U.S. island territories.”

American Samoa Democratic Party Chair Patrick Ti’a Reid said, “We’re grateful for the legacy and lifetime of service that President Joe Biden has delivered to the American people including our territories. Our Territorial Party’s leadership and delegation to the Convention is thrilled to offer our overwhelming support behind the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris and her historic bid for the Presidency. We are excited that she will continue to champion the issues that impact everyday Samoans including Healthcare, Education, Climate Change, and Veterans Issues.”

The Democrats of the territories also issued the following joint statement:

“While the 3.6 million residents of the U.S. territories are unable to vote for President, we have an outsized role in selecting the Democratic Presidential Nominee through the Democratic National Convention. Altogether, our island territories have 107 delegates who will be voting to select the Democratic nominee — more than all but 15 states.

“We stand confident and empowered that Vice President Kamala Harris will continue to highlight the importance of people from the U.S. territories and how we will collaborate to build a more formidable future for generations to come. We stand ready to work and look forward to doing what we can to ensure she secures the highest seat in the land in November.”
