U.S. Park Ranger Susan Fishman-Tudor said she was very impressed by the community’s support.
“Only a few of those who committed to participate did not turn up but even the rain did not hinder the children and adults from having fun,” she said.
“It was fun to see all the kids dressed up as princesses and goblins or wearing the costumes of their favorite cartoon characters as they receive candy and other treats from the trunks of the different companies and individuals,” Fishman-Tudor said.
Last year, some 3,000 participated in the event.
“We were actually expecting a smaller number not only because of the rain but because Oct. 31 fell on a Monday,” Fishman-Tudor said.
Horror films were shown at the Visitor Center from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The crowd also enjoyed listening to the background music performed by Pacific Winds and the Manta Ray Band.
Pacific America Corp.’s “haunted house-inspired” trunk that was decorated with local wood won the prize for the best decorated trunk.
Walter Yu of Pacific America said that it took them two days to decorate their car trunk with bits and pieces of recycled wood.
“We are happy to see the children enjoying the candy they got from us and from the other participants,” Yu said.
He said it was their first time to join Trunk or Treat and did not expect to win the prize: a dinner for four at a local restaurant.
Fishman-Tudor said she would like to thank all who supported the event, and all families that participated to make this year’s Trunk or Treat a successful event.
