Superior Court Associate Judge Perry B. Inos yesterday imposed a $10,000 bail on Melanie Borja Camacho, a resident of Kagman.
She was then remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections and was ordered to appear in court for her arraignment on Feb. 16.
Assistant Public Defender Matthew Holley represents Camacho while Assistant Attorney General George Hasselback is prosecuting the case.
The theft was discovered by DFS general manager Shogo Ando, police said.
According to his affidavit of probable cause, Detective Buddy Igitol said Officer Roque Camacho was dispatched to DFS at about 9:27 a.m. on Monday.
On Jan. 31, 2010, DFS employees counted the cash in the vault and discovered that $710 was left, and that $16,000 was missing, police said.
While Shogo and DFS finance manager Marida Pensader was visiting Camacho at her residence in Kagman, she admitted taking the money from the vault, police added.
