Dictionaries now ready for distribution to third graders

Rotary Club vocational services director Jeff Boyer said  they already have the list of schools to distribute the dictionaries, but all they need is to agree on the time of distribution for each school.

Boyer earlier said they had hoped to get the dictionaries out to the third graders last month.

The Rotary Club purchased the dictionaries for third graders. Delta Air Lines shouldered the cost of the dictionaries while CTSI Logistics paid for the shipping cost from the U.S. mainland to Saipan.

For now, only third graders from public schools will be receiving the dictionaries but Boyer said they have not discounted the possibility of distributing dictionaries to third graders from the private schools too.

“We are financially constrained but as soon as we have adequate funds, we will look into distributing dictionaries to them, too,” Boyer said.

The program designed to distribute dictionaries to third graders has been adopted by Rotary Clubs and other organizations across the mainland.

Boyer earlier said the third grade is the right time where the students are eager to learn and are becoming more active in reading.

“We feel the dictionaries can assist them in their studies,” Boyer said.
