THE Department of Public Lands has granted the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs temporary authorization to use the baseball field in Marpi.

The baseball field is one of the sports facilities operated by the former Mariana Resort & Spa, which previously leased the public land.

In her letter to DCCA Secretary Frank Rabauliman, DPL Secretary Teresita A. Santos said DPL understands DCCA’s need for a suitable sports facility for baseball practices, and “we are happy to accommodate this request on a temporary basis.”

According to DPL:

1) The authorized use is strictly limited to baseball practices involving DCCA.

2) The temporary authorization shall expire upon the execution of a formal lease agreement between DPL and a designated lessee for the property.

3) DPL assumes no responsibility for any accidents, injuries or property damage that may occur during DCCA’s use of public land. DCCA is solely responsible for the safety and well-being of its personnel and participants while utilizing the property.

5) DCCA is responsible for ensuring the proper use and care of the field during the temporary authorization period, which includes maintaining the field in a clean and sanitary condition, repairing any damage caused by DCCA’s use of the field, complying with all applicable laws and regulations.

Santos said DPL appreciates DCCA’s interest in utilizing the public land, and trusts that the authorization will be beneficial to DCCA’s programs.

Good news

House Vice Speaker Joel Camacho said he has been working collaboratively with the Division of Parks and Recreation and the Roads and Grounds Division to clear the baseball field and surrounding areas.

Camacho said DPL’s temporary authorization is good news to the island’s baseball community, which has limited access to the baseball field in Susupe, especially now that the new baseball season is approaching.

Although the authorization is temporary, Camacho said he is grateful that “we were able to get it done.”

“All this work is from our hearts,” he added.
