DPL gears up for turnkey housing program

DPL Secretary John S. Del Rosario Jr. told Gov. Benigno R. Fitial that the department is preparing for the project and asked that he certify a vacancy for a capital improvement coordinator to help facilitate it.

“This position is necessary for the continued delivery of public services and essential for the day-to-day operations of the Department of Public Lands,” Del Rosario wrote to Fitial.

“The Department of Public Lands is gearing up to implement turnkey housing program and requires a CIP coordinator IV to coordinate this important project,” he added.

Fitial approved the request.

He told the Legislature the vacancy will be funded under the continuing resolution.

“Continuing appropriations are available for the full personnel cost associated with this vacancy,” he said.

Thousands of indigenous people who are eligible for either a village or agricultural homestead have been waiting for years for the CNMI government to approve their applications.

DPL’s predecessor indefinitely placed under a moratorium the homestead program to assess how much more public lands can be distributed.

The village homestead lot should measure no less than 900 square meters to give room for a septic tank because the islands’ drainage system isn’t modernized yet.
