DPL still pushing quadruplex housing project

“If we have investors we can proceed with that plan,” he said, referring to  200 quadruplex units, comprising four housing divisions each, in Koblerville and Tinian.

The project calls for three-bedroom and two-bedroom units in a two-story house.

The housing project will cost $256 million which includes the construction of basic infrastructure: sewerage, power installation and roads.

Of the amount, $56 million is for the development of basic infrastructure on Tinian, which will have 100 units.

Rabauliman said the quadruplex project is one of their options to accommodate all homestead applicants.

At present, he said, DPL has received 3,878 homestead applications, some of which were filed in the early 1980s.

The CNMI government imposed a moratorium on village and agricultural homesteads in  2006.

Rabauliman said DPL has identified public lands on Saipan for the homestead program but due to the unavailability of funds they cannot pursue the project.
