DEPARTMENT of Public Safety Commissioner Anthony Macaranas commended the collaborative work of the Criminal Investigations Bureau detectives that resulted in the immediate arrest of a suspect in the homicide case of Pedro Pangelinan Cabrera, 71

“We feel good about it if we solved the crime,” Macaranas said on Monday. “It was the working collaboration among the investigators up to wee hours [that] pieced together information they gathered before they come up with a suspect and an arrest.”

On Aug. 1, at around 5:07 p.m., Cabrera’s body was found south of the Garapan Fishing Base.

DPS later stated that two persons of interest were in police custody.

On Sunday, Moses Pangelinan Cabrera, 78, was arrested at his residence in San Jose for second-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and battery, and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Police said Moses admitted killing his younger brother, Pedro.

“There’s not much I can divulge other than that they were drinking that afternoon, and then they had an argument and then later an incident transpired,” Macaranas said.

On Monday morning, Moses Cabrera appeared before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho Monday morning for a bail hearing and was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections. The court maintained his $250,000 cash bail.
