DPS: MGM-I robbery an inside job

THE recent robbery at MGM-I Poker in Dandan was an inside job, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Acting DPS spokeswoman Rose Ada on Friday said the mastermind was Edil V. Angcoy, a cashier of the poker arcade.

Ada said Angcoy, however, fled to the Philippines on Wednesday at 5:40 p.m.

Ada said Angcoy’s friend and conspirator, Franco Santa Mina Campita, has been arrested.

The 34-year-old Campita was taken to Superior Court on Thursday afternoon. A $10,000 cash bail was set for his temporary release.

“We are working closely with the Philippine Consulate General and the country’s national police to apprehend Angcoy,” Ada said.

Ada said the detectives arrested Campita, who then confessed he got $1,500.

Investigators learned that Angcoy ran away with $2,130 cash.

Public Safety Commissioner Edward Camacho said the report given by Angcoy was inconsistent with the findings of the investigators, and that “led us to believe that the operation was an inside job.”

Angcoy and Campita were charged with conspiracy to commit theft, and theft.

Preliminary hearing was set for Wednesday.

Last June 18, Angcoy reported that three men robbed the poker arcade of $4,000 cash.
