A witness who arrived later told Variety that the driver of a pickup truck stopped and called 911.

Earlier, DPS Public Information Officer Fred Sato said: “There is no description or license plate of the vehicle involved, as the operator fled the scene. The investigation is ongoing with our Highway Patrol Traffic Investigation Unit.”

According to DPS, at 8:59 p.m. on Sept. 1, 2025, 911 dispatchers received a call reporting the incident.

Road rage

As for the auto-auto crash that occurred on Aug. 25, DPS has classified that hit-and-run, which involved a Toyota Tacoma, as a case of road rage.

On Thursday, Sato told Variety the incident is still under investigation and that no new information is available.

The Aug. 25 crash, which occurred near the Northern Marianas Housing Corp. office in Garapan, went viral on social media. A tan Toyota Tacoma struck a vehicle and a cyclist before fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed.
