Nobuyoshi Senga, who did not sustain any injury, was rescued by DPS Boating Safety personnel after a police unit was flagged down at the Agingan point cliffline, at about 10:53 a.m., according to DPS spokesman PO2 Eric David.
Police said Senga and his friend were snorkeling within the lagoon of Pakpak beach.
Senga was swimming along the reef line when big waves and strong current swept him.
He tried several times to swim back into the lagoon, but failed due to the water conditions.
In other news, Deolito Ramirez and Apolinario Dela Rosa were rescued on Friday evening after the Emergency Management Office called DPS regarding a distressed vessel about two to three miles west of Saipan.
Police said the two departed the fishing base in Garapan at about 6 a.m.
At about 4:30 to 5:00 p.m., after an all day trolling the two decided to head back but their vessel’s engine died.
After an hour of trying to start the engine, they called EMO through VHF radio and requested for assistance, police said.
