DESPITE the austerity measures imposed by the administration, the Department of Public Works will renew the $120,000 independent contract of the department’s special consultant on the prison project.
Public Works Secretary Juan S. Reyes yesterday said Pete Sasamoto would remain as DPW’s consultant until the completion of the multi-million dollar adult prison facility project.
“I don’t think that (his compensation) is big because he is going to do a lot of things,” Reyes said.
Sasamoto’s contract was sole sourced.
During the Tenorio administration, Sasamoto served as consultant to DPW, assisting the department in the prison project.
Under his old contract, he was tasked to perform “project close-outs, capital improvement project implementation, creating CIP data bases for fund allocation and, more specifically, work related to the new prison facilities.”
The renewal of the Sasamoto’s contract does not contradict the governor’s expenditure control directive, Reyes said.
The $120,000 that the government will pay the contractor is inclusive of all contributions and taxes to the commonwealth and federal governments, Reyes said.
Due to deductions, Sasamoto will get about $70,000 of the total contract figure, Reyes said.
