Detective Elias Q. Saralu, in an affidavit, said that they received a call from Annette Jones Castro who told them that she had beaten her husband and if they didn’t come to her residence right away, she was going to kill him.
Police responded to the scene and found the victim and the defendant with their children outside their house. The victim had a laceration on his left cheek.
According to a witness, she was inside her room when Castro called her and told her she was going to jail.
The witness said she heard the victim and the defendant arguing about “the past” and she saw Castro throw a plastic broom at the victim’s face.
The witness added that she saw Castro slapping the victim on the face and pushing his face against a table and a chair.
The victim fell but did not do anything to ward off the blows.
The witness said she started yelling at Castro to stop assaulting the victim, but the defendant proceeded to hit the victim with a beach chair twice.
According to Saralu, Castro admitted hitting the victim.
Prior to the incident, the couple arrived from a family party at 11 p.m.
The victim said he and Castro had been drinking beer when she started badgering him about his ex-girlfriend.
The victim said Castro started hitting him on the face, back and neck.
He said he didn’t fight back.
When Castro hit him with a piece of lumber, he passed out.
When he regained consciousness, he went to the back of the house but Castro followed him and started punching him again. The victim said he tried to calm Castro down but “she was very drunk.”
Castro was transported to the Department of Corrections where she was booked and detained.
She is facing charges of assault, assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace.
During yesterday’s hearing, Judge Kenneth L. Govendo set Castro’s bond at $10,000 — $1,000 in cash and $9,000 in unsecured bond.
Govendo also ordered Castro to surrender her travel documents and to stay away from the victim.
