Easter Walk to be held on Saturday

ACTIVELY campaigning to promote public and mental health through walking, the Saipan Walking Association is spearheading another 10-kilometer post “Easter Walk” this Saturday.

Established in July last year, Saiwai, was recently admitted in the world-renowned International Federation of Popular Sports or IVV, giving the CNMI a much needed exposure among European and Asian countries.

Mario Ispeleta, director-general of Saiwai and also the administration manager of Pacific Development Inc., said the group’s entry to IVV has created curiosity among Europeans.

“Saiwai offers non-competitive and outdoor walking as a great way to reach and enjoy life and nature and further peace and understanding between nations by fostering international friendship through walking events in the CNMI,” Ispeleta said.

Ispeleta told the media yesterday that at least two German nationals wrote them to inquire about Saipan’s location and Saiwai’s upcoming events.

He said Saturday’s event is open to the public. But children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Registration starts at 5:30 a.m. at the American Memorial Park and closes at 7:00 a.m.

A $6 registration fee will be collected from each participant. The amount entitles one to a free T-shirt and refreshments.

“This event is sanctioned by the International Federation of Popular Sports and is eligible for credit towards IVV achievement awards,” Ispeleta said.
