AN employer was ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 and was permanently barred from hiring non-resident workers for not cooperating with authorities investigating labor complaints against his firm.
However, Hearing Officer Jerry Cody said the disqualification sanction against Martin DLS. Salas of Wil-Mart’s Auto Repair Shop and Wil-Mart’s Construction, may be reduced to two years, if the employer will pay the fine within the month.
Cody said Salas violated several labor laws when he failed to appear for investigation and did not produce documents as demanded.
According to labor documents, the application of Wil-Mart’s five non-resident workers were rejected due to “serious questions as to the legitimacy of respondent’s construction business.”
