Engine 6 down, causes unscheduled power outages

As of press time yesterday, CUC was not able to supply power at the second partial of Feeder 2 that covered  Tony Roma’s Restaurant in Garapan to Microl Toyota in San Jose.

Garry P. Camacho, CUC power division manager, said the power outage started at 10:30 a.m. but was expected to be restored in the afternoon.

Based on the report from the field, an oil mist detector of Engine 6 detected some failures, he said.

This could have been caused by  overheating because of lack of oil or indiscriminate application of used oil.

The problem cannot be fixed easily if it already affected the crankshaft, Variety was told.

But Camacho said CUC mechanics and technicians were able to address the problem immediately and worked overtime to restore the power.

Yesterday, only Engine 8 was online, allowing Power Plant 1 to produce a maximum of  4.4 megawatts.

The Aggreko units in Lower Base maintain its generation of 15 megawatt while Power Plant 4 produced  12.7 megawatts.

One of the Power Plant 4’s engines is undergoing complete overhaul since Oct. 12 but is expected to be back online at the end of this month.

Camacho said Feeders 4 and 7 experienced less than an hour of power outage on Saturday

The power interruption started at 10:30 a.m. and power was restored before  10:56 a.m.

On Sunday, he said, a power outage  hit the same feeder starting at 7:11p.m. and lasting less than an hour.
