Michael Mann of the EPA’s Pacific islands office, communities and ecosystem division have met with CUC and water task force officials.
Yesterday, he was accompanied by officials of CUC’s water and wastewater division for an ocular inspection of the projects.
In an interview, Mann said the main purpose of his visit was to review the ARRA projects of CUC.
These include the rehabilitation of the Sadog Tasi wastewater treatment plant, the realignment of sewer lines and the drinking water well isolation project.
CUC said the initial draining of sewer basins have started for the Sadog Tasi wastewater treatment plant rehabilitation project.
The projects funded by an ARRA grant amounting to $1.1 million will be completed on Nov. 8, 2010.
CUC will also upgrade the Sadog Tasi water, wastewater and sewer collection lines.
Mann said based on his observation, “CUC does a very good job managing their grant projects.”
He said the EPA is regularly reviewing the ARRA projects of CUC on Saipan.
“This kind of review recurring throughout the life of the grant to make sure they are in compliance,” he added.
