Esco’s reopens as Tun Goru Snack Bar

Cabrera, daughter of Gregorio Camacho Cabrera and Escolastica Tudela Cabrera who opened Esco’s Bake House on Capital Hill in the late 1940s, has picked up where her parents left off.

Carmen Cabrera reopened Esco’s which is now known as Tun Goru Snack Bar yesterday morning.

“We decided to hold the grand opening on the 13th as the number holds a significant part of our lives,” she said, adding that yesterday was their parents’ wedding anniversary. Her father died on Nov. 13, 2006.

Her brother, Eloy Cabrera who used to run Esco’s, said the harsh economic situation forced them to close doors in Sept. 2007.

“But the clamor of the community and our loyal clients encouraged us to consider reopening and look at the positive side,” he said.

They started the renovations in October last year and had a “soft opening” on Dec. 23.

Carmen Cabrera said business has been picking up since then.

Located on the corner of Isa Road and Talafofo Drive, Tun Goru Snack Bar is easily accessible to customers whenever the craving for local favorites hits them.

Tun Goru’s Snack Bar offers it mouth-watering line of island favorites — apigigi, bibingka, donuts, man’ha biscuits, Pan Tuba, potu, tamales, titiyas, chicken kelaguen, empanada, guzuria, rosketti among other food items.

Tun Goru also has breakfast, hot lunch, soba, soups, sandwiches and burgers.

It accepts special orders for cakes for all occasions.

Carmen Cabrera said they may go into home delivery as part of their customer services but that will be in the future.

“We will take things gradually; for now we urge the community to drop by and have their fill of local favorites,” she said.

Tun Goru’s Snack Bar is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
