Ex-courthouse official gets 1-year probation for possession of 19 marijuana plants

U.S. District Court of the NMI Chief Judge Alex Munson also directed Guzman to a pay a fine of $1,000 and a $25 special assessment fee after sentencing.

Guzman was ordered by the court not to commit another federal or local crime as well as use and/or possess controlled substance.

He is expected to undergo one drug test within 15 days and his periodic drug test will not exceed eight tests per month, as directed by the U.S. Probation Office, for detection of drug and alcohol use.

Guzman will submit to the collection of DNA sample at the direction of the federal probation office.

He is prohibited from possessing a firearm or other dangerous weapon or having such weapon where he resides, the court said.

Guzman pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession of 19 marijuana plants on July 22, 2008.

Guzman is currently out after posting an unsecured bond and has 10 days to appeal the sentence.
