Demapan, who was also a member of the islands’ first constitutional convention, said he believes he can serve the people of Saipan during these challenging times.
He said party leaders and members were “very enthusiastic” about his interest to serve as the next Saipan mayor.
If elected, Demapan said his primary mission is to assist in the training and eventual employment of jobless local.
He said he will also beautify the island’s main thoroughfares and reduce the cost of electricity as well as consumer goods, including gasoline.
A former Republican, Demapan was a Saipan senator from 1992 to 1996.
The other Saipan mayoral candidates are former Corrections Commissioner Lino Tenorio, former Agriculture Director Donald Flores, former Rep. Candido B. Taman, Chamorro advocate Joel Sanchez and former Agriculture Director John C. Reyes.
