Ex-senator defends son in 3-vehicle crash

“My son was not at fault,” Adriano told the Variety over the telephone yesterday, referring to the June 10 accident  near Taibwo St., involving a white Kia delivery van, a red Mazda Protégé, and a Nissan Frontier pick-up truck.

According to Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro, Shane P. Adriano violated  the CNMI Vehicle Code, which states that no one is allowed to drive over the required speed limit.

DPS said Shane Adriano’s Nissan failed to stop in time, hitting the rear of the Mazda which was driving south along Beach Road when its driver stopped to make a left turn on Taibwo St.

The impact caused the Mazda to collide with a Kia delivery van which was on the northbound lane.

“My son was driving at 25 mph only,” said the former Tinian senator.

The Mazda, he added, did not signal, hence his son was not able to stop in time to prevent a collision.

The former senator also disputed the Tribune report that his son suffered bruises in the mishap.

The Tribune reported that it observed a scratch mark on Shane Adriano’s left arm.

Former Senator Adriano  said the Tribune report was inaccurate, adding that the newspaper “always reports negative things” about him.
