FAS & US holds joint telecommunication meeting

Unfortunately, this year’s meeting includes only three delegations because the Republic of the Marshall Islands could not make it.

This meeting consists only the FSM, the Republic of Palau and the United States.

Yap State Governor Sebastian Anefal officially opened the meeting this morning by welcoming all the three delegations to Yap and thanked the United States Government for choosing the FSM as the venue of these meeting and the FSM National Government for giving Yap the opportunity to be host for this year’s very important undertaking.

The heads of the three delegations have shared the same sentiments when they also gave their remarks during the official opening, which took place at Yap Small Business Development Center this morning.

On the group’s agenda, they are scheduled to hold general discussions today on the status of a fiber optic cable project in the Central Pacific and comments common to all FAS on Spectrum Harmonization Obligations, Spectrum Management Training and so forth.

The group will also be considering other communication issues regarding the U.S. Department of Defense and Protection of Frequencies Supporting Critical Infrastructure.

They will further their discussions in the afternoon on ITU Resolution 647 from WRC-07 regarding Identifying Frequencies for First Responders When Providing Disaster Assistance and the Interference Between HF Stations in the Three Freely Associated States.
