February car sales down 26%

A report from the Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association released yesterday showed that the three car dealers on island sold 42 brand new vehicles last month compared to 57 in same month last year.

Microl Corp. topped last month’s sales with 19 units of brand new vehicles, representing 45.24 percent of the total market share. Triple “J” Motors followed with 13 units sold, claiming a 30.95 percent market share and Joeten Motors with 10 brand new units sold.

February’s brand new vehicles sold included 15 sedans, 12 trucks, four vans and 11 sport utility vehicles.

Toyota remained the favorite brand with 19 units sold. Mazda followed with seven;  Hyundai, six; Nissan, Ford and Kia, three each; while Honda sold one.

The three car dealers  sold a total of 84 brand new vehicles for the first two months of 2011, posting a 32.8 percent decrease compared to the 125  sold during the same period last year.

The brand new vehicles sold this year included 33 sedans, 18 trucks, seven vans, and 21 sport utility vehicles.

Also sold were 27 used vehicles last month, bringing the number of used vehicles sold to 44  for the first two months of the year.

Triple “J” Motors sold the most number of used cars last month — 11. Microl Corp. sold 10  while Joeten Motors sold six.

Joeten Motors distributes Nissan, Ford, Honda, Kia and other brands. Microl Corp. sells Toyota and Chevrolet, while Triple “J” is the local dealer of Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki, Mazda and other brands.
