Feds to spend $289 per NMI student

The Public School System has 10,369 students from kindergarten to 12th grade in this school year, and there are 20 public schools on Saipan, Rota and Tinian that will benefit from the $9.1 million consolidated grant.

Of this amount, $3 million was allotted for the use of schools based on their student populations.

PSS records show that there are 5,447 elementary students who will benefit from the $1.575 million in federal funds that will go to 12 elementary schools.

Garapan Elementary School, which has 791 students, will receive $228,855 while William S. Reyes, which has 688 students, will get $199,055.

San Vicente, with 684 students will be allotted $197,898; Kagman Elementary, 627,  $181,406; Oleai, 512, $148,134; Dandan,  449, $129,906; Koblerville, 432, $124,980;  Gregorio T. Camacho, 225, $65,098; Tanapag, 232, $67,123; San Antonio, 311, $89,980; Rota’s Sinapalo, 217, $62,783; and Tinian Elementary, 279, $80,721.

Middle and secondary schools will receive $1.424 million.

Preliminary records for middle and high schools indicated a total enrollment figure of 4,922.

Marianas High School, which has 1,220 students, will get $352,975; Hopwood Junior High, 1,140, $329,829; Kagman High, 784, $226,830; Saipan Southern High, 728, $210,628; Chacha Oceanview, 447, $129,328; Tinian Junior and Senior High School, 301, $87,087; Rota High School, 169, $48,896; and Rota Junior, 133, $38,480.
