Karidat Inc. executive director Angie Deleon Guerrero said DPW is still working on the specifications and other requirements before the project can actually begin.
Deleon Guerrero said they have acquired $5,000 from the Legislature for the project, and a $5,000 grant from TakeCare Foundation as matching fund.
Deleon Guerrero said the funds could be inadequate by the time the project starts.
“When we got quotations for the project, it was about $10,000 but the actual project cost needed for the project could be more than the original quote, with the way prices of things are going up,” she said.
Deleon Guerrero said they hope to have the project started very soon and completed by September.
Karidat’s House of Manhoben youth coordinator Calvani Deleon Guerrero accepted the $5,000 donation from TakeCare Foundation last June.
He said the House of Manhoben teen center has been a frequent victim of vandals and its walls have been filled with dirty graffiti. Erecting a fence around the center will prevent vandals from splashing paint and scribbling on the walls.
The Karidat House of Manhoben fosters self-esteem, self-reliance and self-confidence to aid in the growth and development of the youth in the CNMI, he added.
He said young people are currently undertaking classes in sports, arts and crafts and other activities at the House of Manhoben teen center this summer.
