A former Election Commission executive director, Sablan was the only candidate who attended a forum held earlier by the Coalition for Recognition, Equality and Advancement of American Ethnic Minorities.
CREAN chairman Gus Loste yesterday said they evaluated the platforms of Sablan, John Oliver DLR. Gonzales, Pete A. Tenorio and Juan T. Lizama — the candidates who topped the group’s mock election last month.
But only Sablan was able to explain his platform to CREAM, Loste said, adding that the candidate’s answers were “very realistic” and it were not expressed just to secure votes from them.
Loste said they chose Sablan not because he was the only candidate who attended the CREAM forum.
“His programs squarely address the concerns of our group,” Loste said.
Asked for comment, Sablan said: “I am obviously very happy to learn that citizens who happen to be members of the CREAM organization have decided to support my candidacy. I recognize them for taking an active part in this year’s election and for their many contributions to our islands. I am very pleased with their decision and I welcome their endorsement.”
The CNMI federalization law and the power crisis were among the topics discussed during CREAM’s forum.
Loste said their group has 1,200 registered voters, which include Bangladeshis and Chinese who married U.S. citizens.
