Filipino group prepares for Christmas events

UFO president Olive Yana said the lanterns will add “more color” to the surroundings of the church especially during the night.

“We still have to deal with the rain though,” she added.

Their group, she said, also considered the Civic Center area because it is accessible to the community.

Aside from a lantern making contest, UFO will again hold a chorale singing contest.

Yana said the contests is open to all nationalities and groups — residents or nonresidents.

These contests are the highlights of this year’s “Paskong Pinoy” celebration on Dec. 19-20.

UFO has yet to set criteria for the lantern making contest but one of the basic requirements is that the materials should be indigenous, Yana said.

For the chorale singing contest, participants can perform an English or Filipino Christmas song five to 10 minutes long.

Participants can use  musical instruments.

The prizes include a round-trip ticket to the Philippines and cash.
