Filipinos urged to register for absentee voting

He said he cannot visit Rota and Tinian to register qualified Filipino voters there.

But on-site registration on Rota and Tinian might be possible for the next Philippine elections in 2013.

Macaraig is encouraging all qualified Filipino voters to register so they can vote in next year’s presidential election.

The ballots cast on Saipan will be “safe and secure” and watchers representing the candidates can witness the counting of the votes at the consulate in Susupe.

As of Aug. 24, the consulate had registed 544 absentee voters, consulate staff member Ray Madrilegos told the Variety yesterday.

In 2003, 6,988 voters registered in the CNMI, he added.
