Finance files tax lien against CNMI Manpower Services

THE Department of Finance on Thursday last week filed in the District Court of NMI a notice of tax lien against VR Company LLC, dba CNMI Manpower Services, in the amount of $161,117.47.

The tax lien notice indicates that Manpower Services failed to pay its $27,814.78 tax obligation for the Dec. 31, 2014, tax period; $31,038.21 for the Dec. 31, 2015, tax period; $73,784.41 for the Dec. 31, 2016, tax period; $24,479.18 for the Dec. 31, 2017, tax period; $25.97 for the Dec. 31, 2018, tax period; and $3,974.92 for the Feb. 28, 2018, tax period.

According to the lien, “notice is given that taxes (including interest and penalties) have been assessed against the…named taxpayer. Demand for payment of this liability has been made, but it remains unpaid. Therefore, there is a lien in favor of the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands on all property and rights to property belonging to the taxpayer for the amount of these taxes and any additional penalties, interest, and costs that may accrue.”

In 2019, VR Company was raided by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents as part of an investigation that involved then-Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and his brothers Vincent Torres, Victorino Torres and Jack Torres, in relation to real estate transactions with Imperial Pacific International.
