Fire hits Garapan apartment

Noel, a tenant, said he was inside his unit when he heard an explosion.

When he rushed outside to check, Noel said he saw smoke coming out of his neighbor’s unit, followed by the sound of breaking windows.

“I rushed to check on my neighbor who has a young child who may be inside the burning apartment. Luckily, the child was already in school,” Noel told the Variety.

Noel  said his neighbor’s house help was on the ground floor when the fire broke out, while the tenant was alreadyat work.

Noel said the house help rushed into the burning apartment unit and tried to save valuable items.

“I told her that it’s no longer safe to go inside because we were already suffocating,” Noel said.

Other tenants rushed outside of their units and called for assistance.

The blaze was immediately put out by responding firefighters.

The Department of Public Safety has yet to issue details of the incident.
