The Fish and Game Conservation Fund was re-established Tuesday when Gov. Juan N. Babauta signed into law House Bill 13-9.
The governor also signed H.B. 13-17, which appropriates $1.72 million for the replacement of asbestos water pipes in Chinatown. The bill was offered by Speaker Heinz S. Hofschneider and House Floor Leader Jesus T. Attao.
House Bill 13-9, which is now P.L. 13-8, re-establishes the Fish and Game Conservation Fund as a revolving fund to be used for the administration of programs under the Division of Fish and Wildlife.
According to lawmakers, the protection, conservation and survival of the CNMI’s fish and wildlife will be best served if the collections from licenses and permits issued and penalties or fines assessed are dedicated to fish and game conservation programs.
Babauta said the new law will improve the mission of the Division of Fish and Wildlife.
