The vacancies are for nine corrections officers I, 10 corrections officers II, four corrections officers III, one corrections lieutenant, one administrative officer II, one general maintenance worker, one electronics technician II and one computer system administrator.
“The filling of these vacant positions are of vital importance for the efficient delivery of essential public services.
Continuing appropriations are available for the full personnel cost associated with these vacancies,” the governor wrote in his July 2 letter to acting Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider, R-Tinian, and acting Speaker Felicidad T. Ogumoro, Covenant-Saipan.
Public Law 16-32 or the budget for FY 2009 allows Corrections to hire up to 113 personnel.
The department’s total budget was $3.5 million — $300,000 of which came from the federal Compact-Impact funds.
The department spends over $2.6 million for personnel and the rest of its budget goes to operations and utilities.
