Fitial names Korean businessman economic adviser

Kim, who owns DKK Inc., runs a 1,000-square meter hydroponic farm in Chalan Kanoa. He also plans to operate an indoor farm in San Antonio.

Fitial thanked Kim, who has been residing on the island for 12 years now, for his “immense” contributions to the growth of agriculture on Saipan.

In his letter to the businessman, Fitial said “it is my distinct pleasure to officially appoint you as my special economic adviser for Korea.”

Fitial said he expects the CNMI to benefit from Kim’s extensive knowledge in agriculture and wide network in the South Korean market.

“With your assistance and support, I hope to further refine our policies and incentives to attract more tourists and investors from South Korea,” the governor said.

Kim told Fitial he will assist the CNMI government in coping with the economic and investment challenges confronting the commonwealth.

Kim said he is a volunteer special adviser and will not be paid by the CNMI government.

Kim introduced hydroponic farming to the island three years ago. He and the Department of Lands and Natural Resources started the project in the Division of Agriculture’s back yard in Kagman.

He moved his green house project to Chalan Kanoa last year.
