The mayor also lauded Gov. Benigno R. Fitial for appointing Babauta.
“As a former government official and legislative policymaker, Mr. Babauta will certainly bring in a wealth of knowledge and experience to the department,” Flores said.
In his letter to the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations, Flores expressed his support for the appointment of Babauta.
“I am appealing for the support of the members of the 17th [Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigation] in the speedy confirmation of Mr. Babauta’s appointment,” the mayor said.
Kimo M. Rosario, the mayor’s special adviser, said Flores is confident that Babauta is “the right candidate for the post and [the mayor’s] office looks forward to working closely with Mr. Babauta.”
A staunch supporter and ally of the governor, Babauta will succeed John S. Del Rosario as DPL secretary.
