“They will spend money here and we will learn about their culture and talents,” he said.
On Monday, Korea’s Dangjin Middle School Brass Band, comprising more than 80 students, will arrive on Saipan.
The band, led by its principal You Hee Kwon, will perform at the Saipan Presbyterian Church in Chinatown at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Admission is free.
Jun Ho Park, P’Art Music Academy president and organizer of the event, said the Korean Association of Saipan will co-sponsor the program.
Flores and Park earlier met to discuss Korean-Saipan ties, particularly the student exchange program.
The mayor said he is looking forward to the expansion of the program.
He told Park to invite other schools to perform on Saipan. “It would be an educational experience for the students and local residents,” he said.
Flores encouraged community members to watch the concert.
“With this government shutdown people will have more time to take a look at the performance,” he said.
