“We will improve the current regulations to make some changes,” he said.
He said he likes to see the active involvement of cockfighters.
United Cockers and Breeders Federation of Saipan president Jimmy Pascual said the mayor’s idea is very commendable.
He said he will confer with his group and prepare a position paper that they will submit to the mayor.
Their group, he said, has some suggestions about cockfight games and their venue.
Pascual said he hopes the mayor will also appoint cockfight board members who are “professionals and know about cockfights.”
He said their group’s goal is to “enhance and improve the level of the cockfight enthusiast while maintaining a high level of professionalism and improving the professional development of breeders in the CNMI.”
On Sunday, Gov. Benigno R. Fitial signed Saipan Local Law 17-21 which extends the cockpit license from one to five years and raised the minimum bid from $10,000 to $20,000.
The cockfight license of Mary Ann D. Calvo, which expired on Sept. 4, has been extended by the mayor.
