“I thank you all guys for helping me achieve this success,” he said. “Without you guys, I will not be where I am.”

Sablan is the first Northern Marianas College Senior Reserve Officers Training Corps participant to complete the program since its initial launching at the University of Guam.

Sablan dedicated his success to his children, Magdalena and Benjamin, who, he said, inspired him “when he almost gave up.”

He narrated the hardships he experienced while completing the program which included “the times when I had nothing to eat.”

Sablan is encouraging the youth to achieve their potentials through SROTC.

“But remember, you cannot achieve success without the moral support [from friends and family],” he said.

Sablan graduated from UOG with a bachelor’s degree in  psychology with a minor in military science last month.

Among those who witnessed yesterday’s ceremony were his instructor, Maj. Rosita Mendiola, fellow SROTC cadets, retired Master Sgt. Joaquin Lizama, Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos, Sen. Pete P. Reyes, former House Floor Leader Joseph James N.  Camacho and Press Secretary Angel Demapan.
